Womens Resource Center Adopt-an-Apartment

Cornerstone apartment complex is run by the Women's Resource Center for women and children escaping domestic violence. Twice a year BJWC "adopts" an apartment and gets it ready for a family to move into,  since they are unable to bring much at all with them.

"Cornerstone is my favorite project we do with BJWC because helping women and children is at the core of our mission. It's an amazingly humbling experience to be able to help a family feel a sense of home in such an unstable and uncertain time in their lives.”
-Kyla Dance, Coordinator

Ronald McDonald House

“Ronald McDonald House is one of Blacksburg Junior Women's Club's core projects.  We get the opportunity to feed and spend an evening with the families that are staying in the house.  We also get to shower the house with items from their wish list...from cleaning products to snacks that can be shared with their family waiting room in the hospital.  We look forward to this evening every year!”
-Sara Perks, Coordinator

Polar Plunge

For the fifth year in a row BJWC’s “The Frozen Junior Margarita’s” plunged into the New River to support Virginia Special Olympics. Five BJWC members plunged into the frosty New River in March after raising over $4,600 to donate to the charity, and placing first in fundraising. Sara Perks also place first place as highest individual fundraiser.

"It's Just fun to be crazy sometimes. Crazy with a purpose."

The Montgomery County Christmas Store Diaper Drive

“BJWC coordinates an annual diaper drive with local daycares and preschools to aid families who are served by the Montgomery County Christmas Store. This year was the 4th year for this service project, and it was a great success. A total of 4,051 diapers and pull-ups were collected and donated to MCCS, compared to 2,770 in 2014-that’s a lot of dry little bottoms this year! This project would not have been as successful without the wonderful daycares, preschools and organizations that helped us. We appreciate the community giving so generously.”

Last Minute Angels

One of the BJWC’s core projects is Last Minute Angels. Members go to Walmart and take all the angels left on the tree; this is usually done one of the very last days. We also include coats with the requested items.

“Another amazing night with the ladies of BJWC! We spent over $3000 to provide 52 "Angels" a merrier Christmas holiday!”
-Mel Hassan and Kimberly Grove, Coordinators
